Desen’s mercury-specific soil washing plant uses a custom chelating agent that reacts with mercury to form soluble compounds, which are then separated via solid-liquid filtration. The wastewater is treated with ion exchange to remove mercury, achieving zero discharge. In a Yunnan gold mine project, the plant reduced soil mercury levels from 5 mg/kg to less than 0.15 mg/kg (national standard), restoring the area to farmland within 6 months.
