In the past two years, attention has been soaring. Leachate treatment is the comprehensive promotion of waste incineration power generation, and the knock-on effect of landfill gradually withdrawing from the historical stage. Whether it is landfill leachate or waste incineration leachate disposal, it is a hurdle that must be overcome.

So, the demand has arrived, can the standard be far behind? Although there is currently no unified international standard for toxicological evaluation and classification of land use of sludge and its resource-based products, the ISO international standard proposal "Sludge" recently led by the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the China Institute of Standardization's Environmental Protection Branch "Used in Land Use Toxicity Assessment and Classification" has been formally submitted to the International Standards Organization (ISO) for project approval.
Taking a step ahead of the international community and promoting international standardization of sludge shows my country's urgent need for sludge disposal. Domestically speaking, the "Implementation Plan for Harmless Treatment and Resource Utilization of Sludge" has also been officially implemented in 2022. It has deployed a series of tasks to address the problem of "heavy water but light mud", strengthened standardized treatment, broadened utilization channels, and completed facilities. In addition, the "Technical Standards for Sludge Co-processing of Kitchen Waste Engineering (Draft for Comments)" and the "Technical Conditions for Dry Anaerobic Digestion Equipment for Sludge Co-processing of Kitchen Waste (Draft for Comments)" have been jointly issued by Shaanxi Province. The standard "Technical Specifications for the Treatment and Disposal of Sludge from Urban Sewage Treatment Plants" (DB61/T 1571-2022), the industry standard "Technical Specifications for the Treatment and Disposal of Oily Sludge from Unconventional Oil and Gas Mining" (SY/T 7481-2020) and other standards are gradually improving the wastewater treatment standards. The standardization of mud treatment, disposal and resource utilization shows that there is another big trend.
